The fruit selected came from Blocks 4 and 7 of moderate yielding Clone 943, grown at the top of the vineyard in Jory and Gelderman volcanic soils. The vines here are among the lowest yielding in our vineyard and give great structure and intensity to the wines produced. This material was considered by the professor who developed the clone program in Burgundy to be the most promising of all.
2021 Novo Vivo is the finest Pinot Noir we have produced in this vintage with a remarkable aroma of black plum, blackberry, bergamot, and rose petal. The flavor is intense and the texture velvety, with a very long finish of red and black fruits, savory herbs, and spices.

Production Notes
This wine was picked specifically for fermentation with popped-head, open top 600-Liter puncheons. As in 2020, only two puncheons, both new, were produced yielding a bit more than 90 cases of wine. The puncheon heads were popped off and puncheons stood on end to serve as small fermenting vessels. One was filled only with completely destemmed, whole berry fruit, the other with completely whole clusters. When both were done with fermentation, the juice was racked off each puncheon into 50% new and old barriques for aging.
