The initial aromas are raspberry, red cherry, and pomegranate, followed by delicate notes of rose and black tea. The entry is round and complex, with fine tannins and fresh acidity, offering flavors of graphite, dried herbs, rose, clove, black cherry, and truffle. The overall impression is one of classic harmony, with a long, nuanced, and savory finish.

Vineyard Notes
Avni Pinot Noir includes grapes from several excellent sources, but the most important source is LSV, our estate, which contributes over a quarter of the fruit in 2024. The next important source is Hyland Vineyard, highly regarded for decades, contributing 20%. Volcanic rock the dominant origin of the Avni Pinot Noir 2024, comprising more than 60% of the cuvée. Chehalem loess (Laurelwood), Mt. Pisgah and other uplifted marine sedimentary soils as well make up the rest.
Production Notes
Hand-harvested, sorted by hand and machine, and destemmed. Grapes were fed bin by bin into stainless steel tanks, where they ferment spontaneously with wild yeasts. 7% of the fruit underwent a carbonic maceration in airtight tanks and a further 2% had traditional whole cluster treatment. After fermentation, the wine was aged in 27% new French Burgundy barrels, with the rest in neutral French wood, mainly barriques. The wine finished aging in barrel for around 12 months with a further 4 months in tank after assemblage before bottling.
Winemaker Notes
2024 has been described as a perfect growing season. Budbreak began in early April and bloom took place third week of June. Early summer temperatures were in the 70s and 80s, with a couple of heat spikes in the high 90s, in July, when these can be beneficial. The temperatures became cooler in September and October, allowing harvest to extend more than a month with each parcel being picked at optimal ripeness and freshness. Picking began the second week of September, and each block could be picked at exactly the right time.
