The L’Atelier Syrah is another trial by a young winemaker at Lingua Franca who was given a chance to shine during the 2018 harvest. Joe Ferris, our Cellar Master, worked with Thomas Savre to make this wine into a nuanced and lifted version of Syrah akin to those in the northern Rhone valley, with violet, herbal, mineral qualities and refreshing acidity. The silky texture of this wine reflects the brilliant growing conditions in Oregon, even for the weightier varietals like Syrah. This is a “Burgundian” version of Syrah, old world in style, with nuance and spice that is quite lyrical and compelling. Available only in limited quantities, order quickly before this wine sells out.
Vineyard Notes
This Rogue River-sourced Syrah is grown on sandstone-based shallow to moderately deep soils. Though the bedrock is marine in origin, the roots of the vines here were able to penetrate the hard, rocky layer over time, creating complexity in the finished wine.
Production Notes
L’Atelier wines are made in extremely limited quantities for our Wine Club and Mailing List members.
Food Pairing Notes
This wine would pair well with a range of full-flavored meats, such as grilled steaks, hearty lamb dishes, stews, osso bucco, barbequed ribs and grilled sausages. For cheese pairings, we recommend partnering it with aged cow, goat or sheep cheeses, specifically aged Gouda and Parmesan, Beaufort or Comté. It would also hold up to spicy Thai or Sichuan dishes, like Kung Pao Chicken, and rich morel or porcini dishes also pair beautifully with this wine.
